Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is in %, the weapon will increase 3% of its previous damage every time it is upgraded.

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment, as well as some of the items that are not ascending back. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the equipment with the upgrade (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of the item will be revealed in the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much it will improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive and it's possible that the item will be obsolete or even break when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also give a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the effectiveness of all nodes in a radius around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible to level 15.

In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your equipment is to use Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values that can enhance a stat by, and the value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Based on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Utilizing a Glyph can boost all nodes that are linked to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. For example, a Druid should aim to place their Glyphs close to their primary damage points, but you should also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes, too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to reach, and the upgrade costs increase as the item gets leveled up.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and once enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will become the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback in that it could cause the item to become more expensive if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to be able to do so. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that has a base of level 1 and completely different bonuses. This is a good option for certain items, however it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives a buff if the player continuously enters or leaves the water. It is possible to upgrade it several times, each time raising the max roll by a factor of 10. This item is highly useful in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of its unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

When an item upgrade is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded increases its crit chance it will be applied before any damage to attack increases. Slots is a brand-new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is calculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item level upgrade are based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost for upgrading non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade item. For example, a common equipment item may have five upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons.
