Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be applied. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item upgrades's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of the equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed mechanic. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player can have the maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their equipment even if they are unsure how much it can be improved upon the reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a significant risk that the item may become obsolete or even break if it fails; a failure to upgrade can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Glyphs

When a player upgrades an item, the base item is replaced by a new item of the same kind. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this.
