Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can have a prefix or suffix, modifying the name of the equipment to which it is used (for instance 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to reach the same level using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab in crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns some Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. When an individual player upgrade an item it is replaced by a new item. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into an weapon or shield once upgraded.
