How to Replace an audi spare key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are different pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car is able to start when the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these sensors go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal, and/or a misfire when in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is going bad and requires replacement audi car key. The good news is that they are quite affordable and readily available particularly if you're looking at the Bosch model, which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi key replacement cost's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the replacement car key audi to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This part is common across the audi key fob 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
