Its more punk-rock sound reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's greater virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live show in Amsterdam that was released as a set of two CDs called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. In 1998, Paich and Lukather started searching through old demos and tapes in search of a new record featuring songs that were never recorded before.
