WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader mod used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from Item level Upgrade upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific item upgrader mod level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific Best item upgrade level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
