Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to reach the same level with normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop, or by getting them from enemies while upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of an item will be dropped during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will be obsolete or even break when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Certain upgrades also provide a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs boost the effectiveness of all nodes in a radius around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as possible.

You'll often see in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the best method to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded up to level 15 and offer a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a different Glyph with the same rank, or a higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is referred to as "upping". The failure rate increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to revert back to its original state, requiring the player to spend more materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition the item will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance, attack damage, and all additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or speed of reload). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon gains an increase in crit chance it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a standard equipment item could have five upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero quality items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items have different requirements for upgrading as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons. Each upgrade of equipment will require different amounts of ingredients for upgrading, in addition to the costs mentioned above.
