How to Replace an audi car key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing is a bit tricky because there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, Audi Q7 Key and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not certain what to do, but i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or from a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in my Area resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and audi spare key replacement position of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To accomplish this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shutdown.
The signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good news is they are quite affordable and easily accessible, especially in the case of the Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be the cause of many problems in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of the audi key fob not working's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. If this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.
The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process the signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is a common component across the audi tt key replacement 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
