How to Replace an audi key fob replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they have different functions but the best way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get zero ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, but i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor replacement audi key Cost are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. The good news is they are very cheap and readily available, especially when you're looking at an Bosch model, like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be an option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of a slew of issues with your car. It is a crucial part of the replacement audi key cost uk's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. If this sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission and the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a common part across the audi car key holder 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.
