WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item level upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular item level upgrade level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item upgrader kit level will be less expensive, even when they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut also, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader kit upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
