How to Replace an audi replacement key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two pins for the connector and they serve different purposes but the best way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is connected but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is failing and Audi Key Programming requires audi tt key replacement. The good thing is that they are very affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at an Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous problems in your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi a4 key replacement since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. If the sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission and the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This part is common across the Audi Key Copy 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
