How to Replace an audi a1 key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two connector pins, audi keyless entry Q7 Key - Utahsyardsale.Com, and they serve different purposes but the most effective method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The replacement car key audi can start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, but i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). 5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the cause of a slew of issues in your car.
