How to Replace an audi key copy G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace audi key fob the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they have different functions but the most effective way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. 3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor.
